Dr Destounis is a fellowship trained breast radiologist that has practiced at Elizabeth Wende Breast care for 33 years. Since that time, the practice has grown from one facility to seven facilities serving over 120,000 patients a year in the city of Rochester, in the surrounding suburbs and towns and also in the Northern Country, Watertown, New York. Dr. Destounis has authored over 150 publications in peer review journals written several chapters in invited textbooks of Breast Imaging and has been an invited speaker and given over 1200 presentations in multiple national and international radiology meetings globally.

She is an active clinical researcher and has been the Principal Investigator for several studies related to breast imaging. She volunteers for the American College of Radiology on several committees and is currently the Chair of the Commission on Breast Imaging and the Chair of the Audit Committee. She is on  the Board of Chancellors for the American College of Radiology.  Dr Destounis is on the Board of the Society of Breast Imaging and is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Academic Radiology and Breast Editor for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. She is the Incoming President of the NYSRS. She is on the Medical Advisory Board of dense_info.org

Dr Destounis is a volunteer for RSNA and received the Honored Educator Award for 2026 and is currently the Chair of the Public Information Committee and sits on multiple committees for the Society of Breast Imaging.
